The primary function of Lupus International is to alleviate suffering for lupus patients through patient services, including education, early detection of undiagnosed cases through awareness promotion, and to eradicate lupus by supporting lupus research.
There is hope. Since 1983, we have provided thousands of people with educational and supportive services. We assist those affected by lupus to live fuller, more productive lives.
Why Lupus International?
Lupus has no boundaries. It affects people of all nationalities worldwide. Lupus International's programs currently touch lives across the United States. This new cyber-era of information exchange provides us with the medium to interface in real time with leading medical institutions in the U.S. and around the world, deliver portable support programs that can be easily translated into multiple languages, and launch awareness campaigns via the internet, print, cable, television and radio stations.
LASEC is the official organization for the City of Los Angeles to seek, host, promote and retain major sporting and entertainment events that positively impact the local economy. These events attract visitors to the city, give them a reason to stay longer and return more frequently and reinforce Los Angeles as an event destination for national and international visitors. Created in 1995, LASEC is a private, non-profit organization and an affiliate of LA INC, The Convention & Visitors Bureau.
When the LA Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) was founded in 1995 by a group of visionary civic leaders, their stated mission for LASEC was to “seek, host, promote and retain major sports and entertainment events that positively impact the local economy.”
Now, in our thirteenth year, we are proud to say that LASEC has created tremendous economic impact for Los Angeles by attracting thousands of visitors to the City, giving them a reason to stay longer and return more frequently, all the while reinforcing Los Angeles as the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World, an event destination for national and international visitors alike.
Over the last thirteen years, Los Angeles has been home to many significant sporting and entertainment events. One of our biggest revenue generators is the BCS National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl which takes place in Los Angeles every four years. The 2006 BCS event generated over $200 million of direct spending and another $200 million of indirect spending to Los Angeles and we expect an even bigger impact in 2010.
Los Angeles has also played host to the NBA All Star Weekend, the NHL All Star Weekend, the MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, the Pac-10 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments, the GRAMMY Awards, the Griffith Observatory Reopening Galactic Gala, the ESPY Awards, the Primetime Emmy Awards, ESPN’s X Games, the Breeder’s Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, WWE’s WrestleMania, NFL 101/201, Basketball 101 with the Los Angeles Lakers and a host of other high profile events. We continue to work diligently to attract the world’s top sporting and entertainment events and ensure that their experience in Los Angeles is a memorable one.
Since the competition for attracting high-profile events is intense, LASEC works to make sure that these events enjoy a positive experience and the full support of the City. LASEC is a private nonprofit organization and an affiliate of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau.
