One Miracle Celebration of Life Foundation: Mike Jones, Founder, President and CEO Kidney recipient and Organ Donor Educator Mike Jones speaks with LaFern Cusack about how asking the impossible saved his life.
Mike Jones is the Founder, President and CEO, of the One Miracle Celebration of Life Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting living organ donors and recipients. His mission is to help bring awareness and educate the public on how to give the “gift of life” (i.e. kidney, liver, bone marrow or blood transfusion) and remain healthy in the process. Jones, a kidney recipient and Organ Donor Educator, was blessed to receive a kidney after waiting five long years. He refused to let dialysis stop him from leading a normal productive life. On September 25, 2001, Jones, a young African-American Christian man, received the “gift of life” from his donor, Patricia Abdullah, a White Muslim woman whom he met while enrolled in a four-day Personal Self-Development seminar earlier that year. After the surgery, Jones was told that it would take him in excess of a year to get back to his normal course of activities. In 2005, Jones received “The Urban Angel Award for Community Service.” In 2006, Jones honored a young man at the 4th Annual Evening of Jazz for being instrumental in bringing atte
ntion to his brother in desperate need of a kidney. Later that year, Jones was able to get the young man’s sister a temporary Visa and flew her from Guatemala to Los Angeles to give her brother the gift of Life (kidney). In 2007, Jones presented “The Inspiration Athlete of the Year” award to Rony Turiaf of The Los Angeles Lakers from ESPN Radio Sports Awards for having heart surgery. He immediately returned to professional basketball following his surgery. In June 2008, Jones and his donor spoke at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and as a result of their testimony, the Pastor’s daughter received a kidney transplant later that year. In 2009, the Master of Ceremony for that event also received a kidney transplant. In the summer of 2012, Jones will be a participant in the next edition of the U.S. Transplant Games.
Combining this miraculous “gift of life” and his love of jazz, The One Miracle Celebration of Life Foundation created an annual “Evening of Jazz” event gathering some of today’s top smooth jazz artists to help him celebrate. September 9, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA, Jones’ One Miracle Celebration of Life Foundation will host its 6th Annual “Evening of Jazz” fundraising event featuring Paul Jackson, Jr. and Friends with special guests Greg Adams, Jeff Lorber, and a very special surprise musical guest that hasn’t performed in the United States in years. In addition to this event and a host of upcoming speaking engagements, Jones is a Donate Life Ambassador for Organ and Tissue Donation as well as a contributing/Co-author to two books, Chicken Soup for the African-American Soul, The Power of Mentorship – Finding your Passion and Author of the new upcoming book In the Company of Angels written by Jones kidney donor, Patricia Abdullah. The annual celebrity golf classic raises funds for the research and support of those battling kidney disease in memory of Jason's beloved cousin Segun “Shay” Ukome Moruka who passed away from kidney disease in 2007. Join some of his noted colleagues from the NFL and other celebrities to golf with the community creating a fun and exciting environment to golf, network and support a great cause. James Denton, most recently known as "the plumber" on Desperate Housewives, began acting after a brief career in advertising. His first role as "George Gibbs" in a community theater production of "Our Town" began a long and varied theater resume, from roles like Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" to composing music for a Chicago theater company. After being named one of "Chicago's 10 Hottest Actors" in 1995, Jamie moved to LA and appeared in the feature films "Face Off", "That Old Feeling" and "Primary Colors". Then began a string of television guest star appearances including The West Wing, Ally McBeal, and recurring roles on J.A.G., Reba, and The Drew Carey Show. Denton was a series regular for three seasons on "The Pretender" and on the ABC shows "Threat Matrix" and Steven Bochco drama "Philly". During his last hiatus from "Housewives", Jamie teamed up with Chris Kattan in the crazy zombie western film, "Undead or Alive". Within three months of the premiere episode of "Desperate Housewives," Jamie was included in People Magazine"s 2004 "Sexiest Men Alive" issue. He has supported numerous animal rescue efforts and dedicates much of his charity effort toward protecting the environment. Jamie continues to lend his name and contribute his time to other causes close to his heart and resides in Southern California with his wife and two children.

Michael Allen Doss was an American football safety who is currently retired. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State. In 2005, Mike Doss founded The Michael A. Doss Foundation (Make A Difference campaign).
MDF was founded to assist in the advancement of education, relief of the underprivileged and underserved youth and the promotion of social welfare by lessening neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudice and discrimination, and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency. In 2010 Doss was has named the winner of the Canton Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. Doss and the Mike Doss Foundation have been responsible for the Make A Difference Youth Football Camp at Fawcett Stadium. Approximately 200 children, ages 8-12, have participated annually. Doss also is responsible for the Back to School Block Party for Canton City Schools students. By partnering with local companies and organizations, Doss’ organization has distributed goods with a total value of $20,000. Doss also continues to provide gifts to local children during the holiday season and serves as a motivational speaker for students in Canton City Schools as requested.
