No Limits, Richard Martinez, Director of Development

No Limits is to meet the auditory, speech and language needs of deaf children and enhance their confidence through the theatrical arts and individual therapy as well as provide family support and community awareness on the needs and talents of deaf children who are learning to speak.

In 1996, Michelle Christie-Adams, M.S. ED, a teacher for the deaf with over 18 years experience in the entertainment industry, founded No Limits. Ms. Christie- Adams recognized the lack of opportunities for oral deaf children to improve their speaking abilities in a fun and non-academic setting. Knowing these children can often be lost in the shuffle of the hearing world, Ms. Christie-Adams designed an after-school theater program to help develop communication skills, expand vocabulary and grammar, and understand character development. Through role- playing, cultivating creativity and developing public speaking skills No Limits children began to confidently move in to the hearing world.

After witnessing dramatic improvements in the children No Limits expanded to become a national program. Shows have included oral deaf children in over 10 states with 49 original productions and 30,000 people witnessing the accomplishments and talents of these inspiring children.

With No Limits growing success rates, the program was extended beyond the theatrical arts. In 2002, No Limits began to provide free auditory, speech and language training year-round. Donated by JP Morgan Chase, formerly Washington Mutual, the No Limits Educational Center provides free services to lower-income deaf children in the greater Los Angeles area. As a result of its comprehensive program, oral deaf children are learning essential skills that will allow them to attend college and become productive citizens of society.

The future of No Limits is focused on reaching out to more children across the country and providing services to all in need. In order to continue expansion No Limits would like to thank their generous donors and encourage you to invest in a child's life. http://www.kidswithnolimits.org/

Their mission is to improve the quality of life and build community for families and individuals living with hemophilia or other bleeding disorders by offering a variety of programs and services that educate, advocate and support the needs of the bleeding disorders community in Southern California. October 9, 2010 is the Hemophilia Walk in Southern California at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. For more information: Hemophilia Walk

Hemophilia is an inherited blood clotting disorder, occurring primarily in males, in which one or more of the 15 vital clotting proteins, called clotting factors, are either deficient or inactive.

If you will, imagine a set of dominos lined up on end, in a row, placed a little less than one domino length apart. Normally, if you pushed the first domino, you would have a cascade effect. However, if a domino is missing the sequence will be interrupted and some of the dominos will be left standing. The same is true of the clotting process. If one of the elements in the clotting process is missing or inactive, the next clotting factor in the sequence will not be triggered and the clotting process will stop.

Many believe that an individual with hemophilia will bleed harder or faster than normal, or that they can bleed to death from a small cut. THIS IS NOT TRUE! However, individuals with hemophilia, because of their inability to form a blood clot, will bleed longer. Small surface cuts and bruises are usually not a problem and normally clot on their own. Internal bleeding into a muscle, joint, organ, or head is more serious and typically requires treatment. Head injuries resulting in brain hemorrhage can also be life threatening. (more)

Kevin Malone Returns From Haiti

Kevin Malone, former Los Angeles Dodgers General Manager, returns from his second trip to Haiti and the Dominican Republic . He was able to help a Score missionary doctor get much needed medical supplies; antibiotics, gauze, pain relief, ointments, etc...to a hospital in Jimani, D.R. which is on the Haitian border. SCORE International which plans, organizes, and leads hundreds of short-term mission trips every year.  (Photo left: Kevin Malone and LaFern Cusack)

"I took an SUV with supplies over the mountains from Jacmel into Leogane. This was the hardest hit town in all of Haiti.  It is 15 miles west of Port-au-Prince and closest to the epicenter.  The damage and destruction was severe.  It was there that I met a father standing by a collapsed building holding photo I.D.'s of his two teenaged daughters who were buried underneath all the rubble.  The whole community of Leogane seemed to be destroyed.  Everyone was living in tents or under tarps."

Kevin Malone retired in April of 2001 from his position as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending a 17-year career in professional baseball.  He is now focused on sharing, ministry and giving back to the community.  "The world's barometer for measuring success is a moving target, ever eluding, unreliable and the ultimate deception.  It is an illusion that eventually leads to disillusionment, promising to fulfill hopes and dreams....but can't.  The world's success often cost people all that truly matters: Relationship with God, Family and Friends - and it will only give back shallow and insignificant dividends (if any return at all)."  http://scoreinternational.org

Chris and Johnny Seitz
Biotyping, Beyond Body Language
: Autism and Stroke Recovery
Johnny Seitz began life as a severely symptomatic autistic child; head banging, tantrums, face-blind and mind-blind. He is today, a successfully married adult, gainfully employed at a college of psychology, socially functional and a published author. (Photo Left: Chris Seitz and Johnny Seitz)

"I suffer from something called "mind-blindness" - the inability to understand how another person thinks. So simple tasks like using the Internet or a phone book baffle me. There is logic to the organization of listings and a natural path to be followed from one place to another on the World Wide Web. It just isn't logical to me. "

Chris Seitz is a healing arts practitioner with a masters of psychology, sound healer continued studies at the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and a board member of the Los Angeles Center for Positive Change.

"At Axis Evolving, we provide a healing space for you that allows you to grow in the directions you feel you want to move in. Most people’s challenge these days is stress, – let us facilitate for you in redefining your relationship with stress energy. We’ll help you to identify old stresses locked in your body, and to process and release them. Find and change the self-defeating and self-sabotaging leftover behavior patterns developed in times of early stressors and learn to access your body’s natural resources."

. AEAC has been producing a valley wide art show every year in March to commemorate National Youth Art Month and to give the talented children of the San Fernando Valley a chance to be seen and appreciated by the public.

This single event has grown from a small, neighborhood show into an all day family arts festival featuring over 600 kids from throughout the Valley and attracting over 3,000 attendants. The Ninth Annual Valley Wide Student Art Show was held in March last year at the Chatsworth Train Depot. It was the most successful show to date. Local businesses, city council members, neighborhood councils, colleges, nonprofit groups, and school PTAs sponsor the show every year. This year (the Tenth Annual Valley Wide Student Art Show and Family Arts Festival) will be on Sunday, March 21, at the Chatsworth Train Depot from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Arts in Education Aid Council mission is to restore a complete arts education program to the public schools of the San Fernando Valley by developing and implementing curriculum, and supporting and celebrating activities and events, in art, music, dance, and theatre for all students. Arts in Education Aid Council will always remain independent of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). http://www.aieac.org

Nobel Peace Laureates: International Community Must Commit to Real Peace in Burma and Darfur

The Green Belt Movement International
August 12, 2008

http://www.greenbeltmovement.org/

We must keep up the pressure on the world’s superpowers to ‘do the right thing’ in Darfur and Burma—and create the conditions for long-lasting peace and democracy. This, from a group of prominent
women who recently returned from a three-week delegation to Asia and Africa where they met with women’s groups, government officials and representatives from international organizations, and visited clinics and refugee camps to hear first-hand what is required to bring a sustainable peace to these areas.

Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams (1997) and Wangari Maathai (2004) were accompanied by other notable women including actress-activist Mia Farrow, and the Chair of Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission, Dr. Sima Samar, as they traveled for three weeks to countries that are directly linked to the crises in Burma and Darfur.

“The inspirational efforts for peace by women on the ground--made at a huge risk to their personal safety--deserve the support and recognition of the international community,” says Williams, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work on banning anti-personnel landmines. “It is inexcusable for certain nations to directly support regimes that are oppressing their people and committing systematic, widespread violence against women.”
